A Client of mine purchased a nice 60's 2 story home located
on a very nice large lot. The home had the conventional
separate living room and family room floor plan. This floor
plan they felt left a lot to be desired due to the fact that
they wanted a more open feeling while still wanting  the
ability to have a room that could have separate
 conversation areas.

the left with a limestone mantle. (a very cold stark look)

Exterior view with the two new Pella casement
windows we installed  in the brick wall.

View of the room with its new structural header.
This opened up the wall between the two rooms.

View of the new cherry mantel.
The room now has a far more spacious feel but yet still maintains
the ability to have separate conversation areas when wanted
and needed.  A more spacious feel with out feeling cavernous.

This makes for a much brighter friendlier room.

The end result is that homeowner now has a very warm friendly
family gathering room that is very comfortable to be in.
